J. Lawrence Gilson (1882-1935) was a vice president of the trust department of Manufacturers Trust Co. at the time of his death. A graduate of MIT in 1903 he started a business career in the sugar business with Pacific Sugar Company and after the outbreak of WWI worked with Winchester Repeating Arms and E. I. du Pont de Nemours in the organic dye field where he identified various acquisitions for du Pont. Subsequently he move to the National Lead Company establishing various markets of the company's products, and then into the banking field in New York City.
